Amy Ashbacker, M.S., Civil Engineer...
Amy's trek with VJ Engineering began in 1998 as an internship in the field
of Archaeology, where she performed site and office work on field projects.
She was then given the opportunity to learn CAD drafting and surveying,
both of which she quickly became very proficient at doing. Her natural
progression was to perform civil design, where she became very capable
of leading projects from start to finish. VJ Engineering then assisted
Amy in her course of study at the University of Iowa College of Engineering,
where she was awarded a Master of Science degree in Civil and
Environmental Engineering. She lead the VJ Engineering
Coralville office land development and civil site design team
for several years before joining Darrell L. Smith, P.E., RCC, in
launching the opening of a new branch office in Cedar Rapids.
Amy considers herself "very lucky for being part of a
company that believes in you and your ability, and provides
overwhelming support for continued advancement in both your career
and your education."
Matt Miller, B.S.E., Structural Engineer... "What moved me to join VJ Engineering was the
growth potential and upward mobility that I didn’t have in my prior firm.
My previous company kept saying they wanted all of us to grow, and I believed they really did,
but they were unable to fulfill that expectation. Another luring element was the strength
of the structural team. I knew I would be mentored by well known local professionals with
over 40 years of experience and a willingness to teach. I was young enough to start again at
age 28 and I took the leap to invest in my family’s future."
